9-11

These are a few flags from around my neighborhood this morning.

This morning has been one of those mornings when I have stopped to take the time to think, and ponder. I will never forget the day of 9-11. We were still living at our other house. The kids where all getting ready to go to school. I was in the kitchen, and of course had news channel 3 going on in the living room. I was looking across the room, when I saw the images that where being shown on T.V. I remember thinking "Oh no!" I got the kids off to school, and came home and was talking to my Mom on the phone. It was right them that I was realizing how scary, and serious these events where. I got off the phone, and went, and picked up the kids from 3 different schools. One of the schools I had just gotten home from. I wanted them home, and with me. It felt safer, and the thing to do.

I have never really been one to live my life in fear. I learned at a young age if this was the case, than life was going to be long, and hard. I have to admit at this time in our world, I really was scared. I felt so uncertain of our future. This was such a new feeling to me, and so strange. I will never ever forget it.

My heart broke for the life's that where lost. I just couldn't imagine how much pain people where having to endure. It hurt, and still does hurt to think of the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and etc. that would be effected. What a rippling effect.

This morning I had an errand to run. I decided to drive thru my neighborhood on the way back to the house. I wanted to see the flags that where displayed in remembrance of this day. This got me thinking about the war that is being fought right this very minute. I am wondering why we don't have our flag up daily until these soldiers return home safely to their loved ones. Something to think about.

What a wonderful post. :) It truly was a very devastating day for Americans and for other countries as well. I don't think anyone could fathom such an event taking place... anywhere. :) Wish I had a flag pole so I could hang a flag. :(

I was thinking about that day today too as I put up my flag. I was on playground duty that morning, and the questions of all those worried children were so unbelievable. - Do you remember how quiet is was for the next few days without any airplanes flying?

This day was so vivid to me as well. I think it's one of those memories we will never forget. I wish I could have hung my flag out. It has been raining ALL day long.

Definitely something to think about. I was teaching at Heritage when it happened. Dealing with all of those teenage emotions and worries along with my own was tough. I watched a few minutes of Oprah today, and - of course- she had families of those who passed on the show. It only took 2 minutes of watching for the tears to hit me.

I love your idea of keeping the flags up. What a great tribute.

I remember that day so well. I had such a hard time with it and I felt very scared. I remember my husband had to go on an airplane the next week for business and I don't think I was ever more scared than that day. My heart breaks for those families who lost loved one. THey are true heros for living their lives without their loved ones who died.

What a perfectly fitting post, and so beautifully written. Isn't funny how we will ALL remember where we were, what we were doing, and who we were with on this tragic day 6 years ago! Thank you for a lovely tribute! :)

There was such a sickening feeling in the air that morning - wasn't their? We had just moved to Utah, after living only 5 minutes from the Pentagon. There was a woman in one of the nearby ward who's husband was killed. Thanks for posting Michelle, maybe because we are living in Canada, or because dates always slip my radar, I totally missed the date. Anyway, love the photos - makes me miss the US.

I felt the same way you did yesterday. Flags should be up everyday. We need more patriotic people. WE need to be more supportive. There families of the military people need our support as well. They are left behind.
New York will never be the same to me. I am a former Jersey girl, we lived close to New York and my Father worked in the twin towers.
I am glad I found your blog.... hope to keep up with you and check it out often :) I have you down on my friend list :)

The day still feels like it was just yesterday! I hope that we can all never forget the lessons and the feeling that we have felt because of that tragic day! WE still need to remember the fallen lives and become patriots each and every day!

I still remember that day. I dont think it really hit me until later, I was just in shock.
My husbands favorite place in the world is NYC. He says that to this day he still has dreams about 9/11 at least once a week.

I, too, will never forget that day. We'll fly our flag every day til our soldiers come home! (And then probably after that because we are so lucky to be Americans where we have so many freedoms a lot of people take for granted!!)

I miss our neighborhood from years back - the huge flags on tall poles in the grass lined the sidewalks on all the appropriate occasions. Very patriotic. Thanks for your post.
