Happy Leap Year!

I hope everyone is having a happy day! I am going to make a confession. I have always heard about leap year, and knew it was an extra day of the year, but never really did any research about it. After talking to my Mom on the phone about leap year this morning, I decided to do a little research. I learned that there are 5 Fridays on our calendar for this month. The month began with a Friday, and now is ending on a Friday. With this added special day, we get 366 days this year. :) I also was wondering why do we need this extra day. This is what I found. Leap years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the earths revolutions round the sun. Now when the kids ask me today why we have this day, I will have a legitimate answer. :) Have a great day!

Thank you for educating me about Leap Year! When I read on Kristi's blog about having an extra day (I guess I never REALLY thought about it), I have looked at today a little differently! Hope you made the most of your EXTRA day!!!! :)

My husband was explaining to me about leap year and the extra day and why but the way you explained it was much more understandable than the way he was telling me. Thanks!!! :) Have a great weekend.

Hey thanks for all of the info. My kids just asked me this morning why we needed it and I said, I don't have a clue. I wanted to google some info but forgot about it as the morning progressed. SO now I can tell them!

Hope Sarah is feeling better!

My husband and I were supposed to get married on Leap Year - 16 years ago, so this would be our 4th anniversary. I wasn't about to let him get away with that though, so we changed it. I want to celebrate EVERY year! :)

Hi Michelle, thanks for your comments on our site. Yes, I am a 5th generational Arizonan.... from the Kempton's and Branum's in Thatcher and Mesa!

We still do have family all over Arizona. Alas... I married an IBM'er and we have not lived out West for many years.... far, far away from MY family.
